Hey There, I’m Danny Cheng.
Li Gung Cheng, also known as Danny Cheng, was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. Danny began doing magic at age 14. By high school, he was the president of the Magic Club in Hépíng High School and was performing semi-professionally.
At age 17, Danny moved to Dallas, TX with family. He started focusing on close-up magic and the art of hand shadow puppets on his own. The Dallas Chinese Community Center awarded him for his hand shadow puppet performance in 2011.
After high school, Danny moved to San Francisco to pursue an Associate of Arts degree in Humanities from City College of San Francisco and a Bachelor's degree in Drama from San Francisco State University. While studying, he also worked at a magic store in Pier 39 as a demonstrator performing close-up magic to people from all around the world who came to visit that shop.
In August 2016, Danny competed in San Jose at the IBM (International Brotherhood of Magicians) Ring 216 Yearly Walk-around competition and was awarded 2nd place. In September 2016, Danny won the People’s Choice Award at the IBM Ring 216 Yearly Close-up competition.
In 2017, Danny was awarded by IBM Ring 216 as 1st place for both Yearly Close-up competition and Yearly Walk-around competition plus People’s Choice Award for Yearly Close-up competition.
From 2016 to 2019, Danny was regularly performing as the House Magician at Farina Focaccia & Cucina Italiana in San Francisco Mission district and Izakaya Umai in San Francisco Japantown, SF Hole In The Wall Pizza in Outer Sunset and Slap Face Coffee & Tea in Fremont, CA.
In 2020, Danny released his serious Coin Magic routines with help from Tom Dobrowolski, Jeremiah Zuo, Curtis Kam and Grant Gomez as a small book, which is titled as Coin Monster.
Currently, Danny is an active contributor for the Disclaimer publication on Ko-fi.
Danny speaks fluently in both English and Chinese Mandarin. He will wow you and your guests with his charming personality, sleight of hand or Shadowgraphy awesomeness. When Danny performs, the audience cheers. Your guests will for sure congratulate you on a memorable event!
